After the Second World War, a currency reform was implemented on 1 November 1945 to solve the problem of too many coins circulating in Czechoslovakia. In addition, this reform was coupled with the nationalisation of banks and companies under the Benes Decrees. After February 1948, there was further nationalisation of industry and another currency reform on 1 June 1953. Between 1945 and 1989, coins made of precious metals were issued only sporadically; gold ducats with the Charles IV motif were minted in gold in 1978-1982 to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the death of Charles IV. Silver coins were issued in denominations of 10 to 500 CZK for various anniversaries of important figures in our history or for significant events of the time.
