The History of Kangaroo Gold Coins
The original theme of these coins was the gold nugget between 1986 and 1989, leading to their original name "The Australian Nugget". In 1989, the iconic red kangaroo by Dr. Stuart Devlin first appeared on the Proof collector's issue. This motif was extended to bullion variants of the investment coins the following year.
The reverse of the coin features the likeness of a kangaroo, the official animal of Australia, surrounded by the inscription "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO" or "KANGAROO" depending on the year of issue. Until 2007, the coins also bore the inscription "AUSTRALIAN NUGGET". In addition, the year of mintage, weight and gold purity are shown, along with the mint mark "P".
The obverse of the coin shows a portrait of the formal head of state. As of the 2024 issue year, it is the likeness of Charles III with the inscription "CHARLES III", which replaced the depiction of Elizabeth II with the inscription "ELIZABETH II". The inscription on the obverse identically states the name of the state "AUSTRALIA" and the denomination.
Invest in Australian Kangaroo gold coins and add not only a valuable investment item to your collection, but also a piece of Australian heritage. This coin symbolises the beauty, tradition and economic stability of Australia, making it an ideal choice for any investor.
