2016–2020

The Czech National Bank issues special commemorative banknotes on certain important anniversaries of historical events or personalities. These banknotes are issued in limited quantities, which is the reason for their rarity and value. They have a different appearance, for example the emission of 2021-2025 depicts Karel Engliš and the emission of 2016-2020 depicts Alois Rašín, but they still serve as official currency in the Czech Republic.

CNB commemorative banknote for collector's portfolio

The CNB normally issues only a few tens of thousands of banknotes with a given motif, making them a desirable commodity and thus a value investment. If memorable banknotes are well cared for and kept in good condition, they increase in value over time.

CNB banknote authenticity tests are common practice

CNB commemorative banknotes contain several unique security features that determine their authenticity. The basic ones include: a serial number, a staggered watermark, a whitish watermark and a security strip. Special deep printing and microprinting are also used for production.
