Rwandan silver coins are issued by the National Bank of Rwanda in cooperation with B.H. Mayer Mint in Germany. The coins include three main collector series – Wildlife (African fauna), Lunar (Chinese zodiac) and Nautical (maritime motifs). Each coin weighs 1 troy ounce of pure silver (.999), has a face value of 50 Rwandan Francs, and is issued in a limited mintage. The Wildlife series began in 2008 with a gorilla motif, followed by a series of other African animals, culminating in a crocodile in 2023. The Lunar series follows the Chinese lunar calendar – for example, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon and 2025 is the Year of the Snake. The Nautical series celebrates the history of seafaring and ships, with 2024 featuring the Cutty Sark.
